The Bard's Big Day!

There's been quite an atmosphere surrounding Burns Night this year! Alongside the Scottish Parliament today setting out their plan for the Scottish Independence Referrendum on this special day it really does feel as though the general public have really launched themselves into the celebrations! Even a large bakery chain has been selling a Haggis Pie to mark the occassion!!

Homewardflight got in on the Bard's Big Day with this delicious plate of Haggis, Neeps & Tatties, featured in several Etsy Treasury's!

Wherever you are in the world, hope you had a wonderful Burns Night too!

The Signature of Spring

Miniatures such as this Luncheon Platter have grown to become very much Homewardflight's signature pieces, with their fine detail and so many different & tempting things! They are certainly a joy to design, sculpt & put together! There's something about a plate full of lots of tasty looking temptations whether in miniature or in the kitchen which draws in the eye & certainly the hunger pangs!

Fresh salad leaves mixed with the sparkling sunshine of this lunchtime you could be quite easily mistaken for thinking the year was moving on a pace but it is still only January & the sheep gathered around the bales of hay left to replenish their Winter energy reserves are there to remind us that the days are still cold! The sunshine though, also reminds us that Spring is still there, waiting in the wings to flood into bloom!

The Heart of Nature!

Easter Eggs are in the shops already so it must be nearly St. Valentines Day!! These Valentines Chocolates & Truffles are so very tiny but all the more enticing for it & the photograph with the penny makes you realise just how tiny each chocolate & truffle is!

We were entranced by another rare visitor to our garden the other day, a visitor whose claw is larger than this miniature as a whole. Not so long ago it was a Pine Marten making a pit stop on it's way between hills & mountains but this visitor was a bird of prey! The Buzzard is a little smaller than the Golden Eagle but nevertheless looks quite spectacular when it's sat on the fencepost outside the window in front of your worktable overlooking the lochs & hills! It was staring straight at us and quite a sight, one which we hope will be repeated many, many times! Skye is such an amazing place for nature & the things you can see while sculpting miniatures are quite incredible!

Don't forget that all Homewardflight miniatures in our CDHM Gallery are now available for purchase there!

Fruits of the Seasons!

Walking around the Sleat penninsula, known as the Garden of Skye, yesterday there were signs of all seasons! Snow on the mountains represented Winter, the glorious sunshine, the clear Caribbean blue seas with matching blue skies & not a breath of wind represented Summertime, the smell & crackle of a bonfire lit to burn wood blown down in the recent storms was so reminiscent of those Autumn days not long since past & then, finally, there were the crocuses & snowdrops, the first sign of new life, showing us that Spring is not so far away after all!

We hope so much that you enjoy the pictures of the Island in it's day of all seasons yesterday & that this Fresh Fruit Selection gives you the feeling for that taste of sunny days as much as it does us!

Raining Popcorn!

January is definitely a time for being indoors & making the most of those home comforts! The weather has taken a turn for the worse today & whilst we're hoping for better things by the end of the week, those few extra minutes of daylight we have now gathered have temporarily been covered by the wild clouds & rain of early January in the Islands! All those buds sprouting from the earth far too early during this unseasonably mild winter will be wondering if they're going to be blown away!

These are the days for settling down with a bowl of popcorn and a good movie while we wait for Spring to bloom & the skies to clear! Popcorn in 1:12th scale is something wonderfully unusual & it was such fun to make! We hope you like it as much as we do & find it's something to brighten these dark Winter days!!

Exclusive Minis at CDHM!

Happy New Year, everyone! Or, as we say in Scottish Gaelic, Bliadhna Mhath Ur! Here we are, January 2012, a brand new year, a new spring & summer all stretched out in front of us & memories to make! Of course it's sad when we say goodbye to the Christmas decorations for another year but today, here on Skye, with blues skies, blue lochs & washing blowing in the light breeze at the crofts on the hill, you could be forgiven for believing a taste of spring was indeed on offer!

Here at Homewardflight we're also thinking of the new year stretched out ahead of us after a wonderful & magical Hogmanay & the first blog of the year brings exciting news! We have some items exclusive to our CDHM Gallery which are available to purchase there and only there! We'll be adding to the range so watch out for more additions but to begin with we're chomping at the bit to show you this Fine Cheeseboard & looking ahead to the 14th of February, these scrumptious Valentines Cookies! We've been particularly entranced by the juicy looking grapes on the cheeseboard and how much they resemble the real thing! Were they not 1:12th scale you might easily think they were good enough to eat!

With so much more to come.....
