It's Baking Day!

With the nights now becoming longer, the curtains being drawn a wee bit sooner every night, the mind definitely turns to home comforts and what could be more comforting on these cooler, darkening nights than some good old fashioned home baking! We've been baking in both the full size and miniature worlds lately and both provides inspiration for the other!!

Creating the start of the baking process in miniature is always such a lot of fun, getting all the ingredients together in the bowl and, complete with some broken eggshells dropped by a cook in a hurry, here's a gorgeous mixing bowl full of ingredients which has recently found a wonderful new home along with the finished product of a night of baking - some more of our cake slices, some of which have also found a special new home but also including 4 Violet & Lemon Cake Slices which have just been added to our Etsy store!

Shades of Summer

Still sweltering in the Summer heat we have the perfect addition to our popular range of miniature cake slices with these 4 Strawberry Marble Cake Slices! There's something so tempting about the vibrant red, whole fresh strawberries that is so evocative of sunshine and days when the light breeze is the only thing moving! The warm weather has turned the hillsides surrounding us purple almost overnight as the wild Scottish Heather has blossomed into life! Looking out from the worktable and seeing the landscape turn pink and purple almost right in front of you is quite special and encapsulates just a small piece of the magic that makes Skye so inspirational and which we always try to ensure there's a little bit of in our miniatures too!

Time For Gourmet Cheese!

Heading for the middle of August it seems that we're in the full grip of Summer again in the Islands! It's warm, sunny, the final day of the London 2012 Olympic Games & very hard to believe that here in the miniature world we're making our first steps towards this years Autumn/Fall/Halloween launch!! As the world marches forward and time seems to move on at an ever faster pace the stillness of the tiny miniatures around us provides a wonderful grip on the "moment" and a new addition to our Etsy store this weekend we're excited to share is this Gourmet Cheese Board filled with luxury!

Summer Cakes!

After a glorious Summers day here on the Island we would have loved to sit down in the evening sunshine and tuck in to the real version of these 4 Rose Framboise Cake Slices! It has definitely been the weather for a picnic here & some tourists actually did just that when they parked their car opposite the loch to admire our work table view! They perched on the rocks and enjoyed their lunch amongst the grass in front of Hebridean blue waters - the perfect way to spend a lunchtime!!

Date & Walnut Cake Slices - An Olympic Snack?

Making something you've never seen in miniature before is always special & that is part of why creating these 4 Date & Walnut Cake Slices was such a treat! Of course, it helps that they look delicious and awfully tempting too! Dates & Walnuts have always been some of our favourite foods so to be able to combine them in a miniature cake is wonderful! The perfect treat for the 1:12th scale family to sit down and watch a certain Important Sporting Event taking place here at the moment with!! Even here, at the opposite end of the country to London, we haven't escaped the Olympic Buzz! The supermarket stocks Official Olympic London 2012 sweets, the phone boxes have huge adverts for the Games adorning them, the cafes have special Olympic menus and a local festival even has it's own Fun Olympics Day this August, complete with races and prizes!
